About zevi25.com
This page briefly describes the mission of 25hrs.Cool, how we got started, our current status, and asks for your suggestions, ideas, and support in advancing the goals of our campaign.
Our mission is to discreetly study and understand how a few weekly Sabbath observers may occasionally use their phones or electronic communication devices for non-emergencies on the one day of the week that is holy to us all. By finding guidance in upholding our well-learned traditional values, we can seek ways to combat the forces that try to deter one from the path to a pure day of rest. We all know better, and can do better to help all conform to the behavior patterns that we desire.
Remember the Sabbath day to sanctify it. Six days shall you labor and accomplish all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath to the Lord, your God; you shall not do any work … for in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Exodus, Chapter XX, Verses 8-11.
Our Story
How We Got Started
The impetus for the origin and development of this website, 25hrs.Cool, comes from Zevi Samet. As a 17-year-old, cool senior in a Yeshiva high school, Zevi excels at varsity basketball. In addition to his studies and training/playing as a star athlete, he is on a mission to help his friends and peer group celebrate each entire 25-hour Shabbat day meaningfully and according to the holy tenets of religious tradition.
Where We Are Now
We have just launched this website, 25hrs.Cool, and are beginning to collect data to better understand the scope of the problem of cell-phone use on Shabbat and how it might best be addressed. Our plan is to develop guidelines and programs to support those in need of experiencing and enjoying a more restful Shabbat according to Torah-based principles and rules of engagement.
